How to Install Mesh Tile on Wall

Installing mesh tile on a wall can be a great way to add a stylish and durable surface to any room. Mesh tile is made up of individual tiles that are attached to a mesh backing, which makes it easier to install than traditional tile. With the right tools and a little know-how, you can install mesh tile on your wall in no time.

Materials You'll Need

  • Mesh tile
  • Thinset mortar
  • Notched trowel
  • Grout
  • Grout float
  • Sponge
  • Bucket
  • Level
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil

Steps for Installation

1. Prepare the wall surface. The first step is to prepare the wall surface by cleaning it and removing any debris. You may also need to level the wall if it is uneven.

2. Apply thinset mortar. Using a notched trowel, apply a thin layer of thinset mortar to the wall. Be sure to spread the mortar evenly and leave enough space between the notches so that the tiles will adhere properly.

3. Install the mesh tile. Place the mesh tile on the wall, starting from the bottom and working your way up. Press the tile into the mortar and use a level to make sure it is straight. Continue installing the tile until the entire wall is covered.

4. Grout the tiles. Once the tile is installed, you can begin grouting. Mix the grout according to the manufacturer's instructions and apply it to the joints between the tiles using a grout float. Be sure to press the grout firmly into the joints and remove any excess.

5. Clean the tiles. After the grout has dried, use a sponge to clean the tiles and remove any remaining residue. Be sure to rinse the sponge frequently to prevent the grout from staining the tiles.

Tips for Success

  • Use a level to make sure each row of tile is straight before moving on to the next row.
  • Don't apply too much thinset mortar to the wall. This can make it difficult to install the tile and can lead to cracking.
  • Be patient when grouting the tiles. It takes time to get the grout into all of the joints evenly.
  • Wait at least 24 hours for the grout to dry before using the tiled surface.
