How to Stick Wallpaper on a Brick Wall: A Step-by-Step Guide

Adding wallpaper to a brick wall can instantly transform the look of your space, bringing a touch of style and sophistication. While it may seem like a daunting task, covering a brick wall with wallpaper is actually a fairly straightforward process with the right preparation and tools.

Materials You'll Need:

* Wallpaper of your choice * Wallpaper paste * Primer * Wide paintbrush * Sponge or roller * Smoothing tool * Level * Utility knife * Measuring tape

Step 1: Prepare the Wall

Before you start wallpapering, it's crucial to prepare the brick wall to ensure the wallpaper adheres properly. Start by cleaning the wall thoroughly using a sponge or soft brush to remove any dirt or debris. Allow the wall to dry completely before proceeding.

Step 2: Apply Primer

Applying primer to the brick wall helps to seal the surface and create a smooth base for the wallpaper. Use a high-quality primer specifically designed for brick or masonry surfaces. Apply the primer evenly using a wide paintbrush, ensuring complete coverage. Allow the primer to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 3: Measure and Cut the Wallpaper

Measure the height and width of the wall where you'll be applying the wallpaper. Cut the wallpaper into strips that are the appropriate length and height, leaving a few extra inches at the top and bottom for trimming.

Step 4: Apply Wallpaper Paste

Using a wide paintbrush or roller, apply a thin, even layer of wallpaper paste to the back of the wallpaper strip. Avoid applying too much paste, as it can create lumps and bubbles. Fold the pasted strip in half for a few minutes to allow the paste to soak in before hanging it on the wall.

Step 5: Hang the Wallpaper

Starting from one corner, align the wallpaper strip with a level to ensure it's straight. Carefully smooth the wallpaper onto the wall using a smoothing tool, working from the center outwards to remove any air bubbles or wrinkles.

Step 6: Trim Excess Wallpaper

Once the wallpaper is hung, use a utility knife to trim any excess around the edges. Be careful not to cut too deeply into the wall.

Step 7: Seal the Wallpaper

To protect the wallpaper and enhance its durability, seal it with a clear acrylic sealer. Apply the sealer using a soft brush or roller, ensuring even coverage. Allow the sealer to dry completely.

Tips:

* Use a high-quality wallpaper designed for textured surfaces. * Apply the wallpaper during warm, dry weather to prevent the paste from drying too quickly. * Smooth the wallpaper gently to avoid tearing or stretching it. * If you encounter any air bubbles, use a pin to prick them and then smooth them out. * Remove any excess paste immediately with a damp sponge or cloth.
