How to Effortlessly Hang Prepasted Wallpaper Like a Pro

Prepasted wallpapers, with their convenient adhesive backing, offer a quick and mess-free solution for beautifying your walls. However, to ensure a smooth and long-lasting installation, it's crucial to follow these essential steps carefully.

1. Prepare Your Workspace

Start by clearing the room of furniture and removing any obstacles. Protect your floors with a drop cloth or plastic sheeting. Clean the walls thoroughly using a damp sponge to remove any dirt or debris. Allow the walls to dry completely before proceeding.

2. Measure and Cut

Measure the height of the wall from ceiling to baseboard and add 2-3 inches. Cut the first strip of wallpaper to this length using a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. If the wallpaper has a pattern, align it before cutting to ensure continuity throughout the installation.

3. Activate the Adhesive

Following the manufacturer's instructions, activate the adhesive by submerging the strip of wallpaper in a tray of warm water for a few seconds. Gently blot the excess water using a clean cloth.

4. Hang the First Strip

Starting from a corner of the room, align the top edge of the first strip with the ceiling. Use a level to ensure it's straight. Gently press the wallpaper onto the wall, smoothing it out with a soft brush or sponge from the center outward.

5. Overlap and Trim

Continue hanging the subsequent strips by overlapping them with the previous ones by about 1-2 inches. Smooth out the seams using a wallpaper seam roller. Use a utility knife to trim any excess wallpaper at the top, bottom, and corners.

6. Cut Around Outlets and Switches

To make cutouts for outlets and switches, turn off the electricity first. Use a utility knife to carefully cut around the edges of the covers, leaving a small margin of wallpaper around them. Press the wallpaper into the cutouts and smooth it out.

7. Seal the Seams

Once all the strips are hung, apply a thin bead of wallpaper seam adhesive to the seams using a seam sealer. Smooth the adhesive out using your finger or a damp sponge. Allow the adhesive to dry completely.

8. Clean Up

Remove the drop cloth or plastic sheeting from the floor. Clean any adhesive residue from the walls and trim using a damp sponge. Admire your beautifully transformed walls!

By following these steps, you can achieve a professional-looking prepasted wallpaper installation that will add style and charm to your home for years to come.
